Situated at the opening end of the Han River, Da Nang (also spelled Danang) is the largest city in Central Vietnam. It is located within 100 km of several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Imperial City of Hue, the Old Town of Hoi An, and the My Son ruins. Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture houses the world's largest collection of Cham sculpture. Champa/Cham was an Indic civilization that flourished along the coasts of what is now central and southern Vietnam between 500 and 1500 AD. First opened in 1919, the museum has been expanded twice. It holds an extensive collection of sculptures found in different regions such as Mỹ Sơn, Trà Kiệu, Đồng Dương and so on.
Hàn River bridge is the first swing bridge to be built in Vietnam. The bridge is cable-stayed and lit up brightly at night. It is an important part of Danang's cityscape. In the middle of the night, traffic is stopped from crossing the bridge and it swings on its axis to allow shipping traffic to pass along the river. The area around the bridge is Da Nang's cultural center.
Son Tra Mountain, known to American soldiers during the Vietnam War as Monkey Mountain, is a mountain overlooking the Bay of Da Nang and the East Sea. Atop the mountain is the Lady Buddha statue. At a height of 67 meters, it is the tallest Buddha statue in Vietnam and can virtually be seen from every corner of Da Nang. Ban Co peak is the highest mountain in Son Tra peninsula, standing at nearly 600 meters above sea level. Visitors can enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the entire Da Nang city, Hai Van pass, Lien Chieu bay, Ba Na Hills, Cham islands and the sea far away.
