I am always amazed when I hear stories about people running into celebrities during their travel. However, I have always considered myself unlucky enough to ever have one of those encounters.
Boy, was I wrong!
A few years ago, I was on a cruise with my husband and one of our ports of call was Nassau in the Bahamas. We hadn't planned any excursions for that day, but since we were the only ship entering port that day, I wasn't concerned about finding something to do.
We ended up taking a taxi ride around the island, with our driver sharing information about everything that we were seeing. It was strange to see a few beautiful buildings closer to the port and then seeing dozens of run down buildings just a street or two away. We could tell that the locals struggle financially, despite the thousands of people that arrive on the island every day.
I thought that our ride was phenomenal, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect what happened next!
Once we arrived back near the port, we noticed that crowds were gathering near Parliament Square. The island was celebrating the Queen's Jubilee and Prince Harry was arriving shortly to make a speech.
We grabbed a spot as close to the podium as we could, so we could listen, and then watched as he walked right past us on his way back to his boat.
The entire experience was surreal and I couldn't believe how lucky we were to get to see him! I couldn't tell you what he said during his speech, even though I thought I was paying close attention at the time. I guess I was too excited to be that close to royalty!
It was definitely something that I never expected to have happen to me while I was on vacation, but it does show that every once in a while you can be in the right place at the right time.
Now, whenever I travel, I keep my eyes and ears open. After all, you never know who you will see where!
